Visual Storytelling Portrait Photography

Problem:
Mapue needed artistic portrait, environmental, and feature photos for his portfolio in the dancing industry. It needed to represent what sets him apart from others, his vibe, and personality. So we needed to take this into our creative direction by capturing moody, reds, and movement photos. In a group of three, we directed a two hour photo shoot.

Solution:
We started by researching Mapue's Instagram which influenced how we made the mood board on Pinterest. This gave us different photograph ideas and inspiration for the shoot. Next, we focused on planning the logistics of the shoot like picking the studio, choosing the equipment, and picking the props. On the shoot day, we prepared the space and got the cameras and lighting ready, so when Mapue arrived the shoot started promptly and smoothly. My role was to focus on getting a variety of artistic shots focusing on movement, action, and editorial style photographs. During the editing process, I noticed the background didn't match Mapue's personality, so in Adobe Lightroom I masked the Background and tinted it to red which complimented the photograph.

Result:
My photos resulted in an artistic dreamlike and ethereal style capturing Mapue's dance movements with a low shutter speed. Our client was really happy with the photographs and is going to using them in his portfolio for interviews.
